Factors on choosing a good and quality drains

  
The drainage system is important for any home or establishment, including farms and golf courses. It is the drainage system that one chooses that determines whether or not the surfaces remain dry. Some of the factors to consider when choosing a good and quality drainage include:
  
1. Climatic conditions.
In cold areas, freezing and thawing climatic conditions need to be put into considerations.
 
2. Chemical characteristics of the soil
Some soils contain acids or sulphates. In such cases, drains that can resist this condition need to be chosen.
 
3. Depth requirements & Installation costs
These 2 factors influence the type and strength of the drain to be installed. The drainage needs to sustain the load
to which it is subjected. Cost including transportation influences the drain selected.
Before installation of the drainage system, the installer, mostly construction engineer need to draw out the whole drainage system. Main drainage needs to be properly linked to the subsystems. Some of the issues that can occur with improper drainage system are:
  
· Impeded percolation, usually characterized by water ponded on the surface.
 
· High resistance inflow of ground water towards the drain. This is caused by under design.
 
· High entry resistance caused by malfunctioning. This is as a result of drains that have been installed by
unsuitable methods, under unsuitable wet conditions
 
· An obstructed pipe flow that may be caused by high water level, small pipe diameter, misalignment of pipes or clogging of pipes by fine compounds.
 
Construction of quality drainage system needs to be assured through the use of correct materials, correct methods and procedures as well as correct machinery. Use of well qualified contractors and provision of quality control through testing and supervision goes a long way in ensuring a proper drainage system is put in place.
Remember that a good quality system is also easy to manage and unclog in case of a blockage.
